Getting you Federal PIN number is the first step to applying for financial aid including loans. Andrea Lieberman explains the process.
You need to go to the U.S. Department of Education website and apply for your PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov. The PIN number allows you to sign your FAFSA electronically. It also allows you to make any corrections via the internet once you receive your SAR (Student Aid Report). Both student and parent need to apply separately for their own PIN. You can apply for your PIN number at anytime, even before January 1st. That will be your PIN number for your entire time in college.
